Development Consulting

Hello,

I was wondering if the Duke MBA Consulting club has interests in development consulting (or is it restricted to the Net Impact Club??)

Do mainstream consulting companies recruit students specifically for BoP enterprises, emerging markets and the likes????

Any activities undertaken by the Consulting club in this field???

TIA

Re: Development Consulting

Priya,

I am assuming that you are interested in knowing more about consulting within sustainable / non-profit and development space.

Traditionally, niche companies operating in this space do not recruit in a structured fashion like traditional consulting firms primarily due to the nature of this industry. However, this year the Consulitng Club is focused on tapping companies in this space and is working towards getting them on campus. Further, there are no companies that recruit for emerging markets.

Hope this helps. Feel free to shoot any more questions you might have.

Re: Development Consulting

Thanks for reading & investing your time.

I am prospective full-time MBA student [Batch entering 2010]. One of the major reasons for pursuing MBA is to switch over to Management / Strategy consulting.

I have some of basic queries regarding consulting.

  1. What is the difference in the role & challenges in Consulting as a short term & long term career? I mean how entering as an Associate (Problem Solving, Teamwork, Travel, Data Analysis) in Consulting firm after MBA is different from being a Partner or Engagement Manager?
  2. How the skills required differ in consulting as short term career & long term career? What is the feel in your batch regarding consulting as a long term career choice? If consulting is not the aim of people in long term, then what are options they are considering?
  3. Apart from Traveling,  long working hours , Personal life sacrifice, creative problem solving  what are the other things that you find challenging in consulting ? Especially in the long term?
  4. Can you suggest some of resources for career research in consulting?
