Which consulting firms reccruit in Fuqua?

Hi, I am applying to Fuqua and interested in pursuing Consulting after graduation. I was wondering which consulting firms recruit in Fuqua and what does it take to get a position in a leading firm.

Re: Which consulting firms reccruit in Fuqua?
Good question. The primary consulting firms that recruit at Fuqua are McKinsey, BCG, Bain, Deloitte and Accenture. In addition to these firms, there are a number of smaller consulting firms (L.E.K., Katzenbach, KSA, ZS, Diamond, ScottMadden, SG2, PwC, Everest, Mars, etc.) that actively recruit. Getting an offer from one of these firms will typically depend on how well you perform during the interview process.

I would also add that interview slots for top firms are primarily "closed list" - meaning that you will have limited opportunity to land an interview through a bid process should you not make this closed list.  Getting on a closed list is a function of grades (both MBA and undergrad), GMAT score (particularly quant), previous experience, and networking.  Distinguish yourself in these areas and knock your interview out of the park and you should have little problem landing a top job.

Could you please tell more about the function of grades you meant, Femancda? My friends also told me that Gmat score need to be over 700 and MBA grade is also very important. Would Duke share the grades with recruiters since I know many schools do not disclosure the grades. I am an international student and already admitted to Duke Fall 2009 but my GMAT is 660 only. Do I need to retake GMAT to get in a good management consulting firm? Thanks.

Re: Which consulting firms reccruit in Fuqua?

Huong,

Consulting firms look at some asthetic factors to shortlist candidates- key being strong grades, GMAT score and past experience.  If you have any one factors as exceptional,  weak performance in others can be overridden. That said, it is generally better to have a balanced portfolio of these factors. I will urge you to evaluate yourself as a candidate being pitched to a consulting firm and work on your strengths / weaknesses accordingly. You can't control what has alredy happened but can definitely work towards the future.

Hope this helps.
